Our commitment to a circular production
At the heart of our operations lies a commitment to make our production process as sustainable as possible and working towards a circular production. In collaboration with our neighboring industry partners, we are dedicated to also fostering a sustainable food ecosystem.
Transforming waste into resource
Our cultivation is designed to use nutrient-rich wastewater from a nearby food producer. Through our algae growth, we can purify this water and reclaim valuable nutrients that would otherwise require extraction through mining or energy-heavy methods. This fundamental step not only recycles water but also combats the risk of eutrophication.
Full circle: Returning purity to industry
The cleansed water can be cycled back to the food industry, completing a full circle of sustainability. The residual organic biomass, a byproduct of Algica® extraction, serves a dual purpose: generating thermal energy for our facilities and creating eco-friendly fertilizers.
Vision for the future
As a company, we are working together with the University of Gothenburg and on several development projects (Marefine, Happy Salmon) with the aim of using biomass in other value chains. We visualize this organic by-product can be upcycled and play a useful role in the production of fish feed/animal nutrition and high-value products.
Transforming emissions into value
Algae is the heart of our innovative production process. When growing algae carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and phosphorus are trapped and converted into valuable products.
For every kilogram of Algica® we produce, at least 8 kg of carbon dioxide, 1 kg of nitrogen, and 0.1 kg of phosphorus are captured by the growing algae. These figures reflect our active contribution to a more environmentally friendly future.
Aligning with global goals for a sustainable future
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These 17 goals provide a comprehensive blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. They address global challenges we face and the SDGs are designed to be interconnected, recognizing that progress in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
Each goal has specific targets to be achieved by 2030, aiming to create a world where no one is left behind. The SDGs encourage countries to prioritize progress for those furthest behind first, ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. (https://sdgs.un.org)
Our efforts are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, as we believe in the power of collective action to drive meaningful change. We work towards the following goals: 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, 12 Responsible consumption and production, 13 Climate Action and 14 Life Below Water.
We recognize that real change is a collaborative effort. Together, we can forge a path towards a more sustainable world.
